Intake manifold and air filter > < Testing the vacuum on the high pressure pump
Testing the vacuum at the fuel return-flow line from the injection units
Testing the vacuum at the fuel return-flow line from the injection units
Observe safety measures and rules of cleanliness when undertaking all work on the fuel system → Chapter.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Pressure measuring device -VAS 6551-
t  Adapter -VAS 6551/3-
t  Adapter -VAS 6551/4-
This test is only performed after testing the vacuum at the high pressure pump → Chapter.

–  Unlock the catch -1- and pull off the return-flow line from the connection of the injection unit in -direction of arrow-.
  N23-10353
–  Connect the pressure gauge -VAS 6551- with hose adapter -VAS 6551/3-, fitted on the connection -C-, to the free end of the return-flow line from the injection units.
–  Connect the hose adapter -VAS 6551/4- to the free connection on the injection unit and insert the end into a measuring glass with a volume of approx. 3 litres and hold it inside.
–  Open the shut-off cock -C- of the pressure gauge -VAS 6551-, close the shut-off cocks -A and B-.
–  Switch on the pressure gauge -VAS 6551- by pressing the button On/Off and gauge.
–  Switch on the ignition and start the engine.
–  Read the pressure on the pressure gauge -VAS 6551-.
Specified value: min. - 0.10 bar
If the specified value is not reached:
–  First of all, test the fuel pressure in the fuel return-flow line in the low pressure area and if necessary, repair this return-flow line → Chapter.
If the specified value is also not reached although the fuel pressure in the fuel return-flow line in the low pressure area is correct:
–  Replace the fuel return-flow line from the injection units to the high pressure pump.
–  Check fuel system for tightness → Chapter.
