Inspecting synchronous running of sprockets
Inspecting synchronous running of sprockets
This inspection should be carried out if the sprockets have been replaced.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Straightedge
t  Feeler gauges
The crankshaft sprocket is available in 3 different widths; graduation: 0.2 mm marked with characters “E”, “F” or “G”. The wheel with an average width, marked with the letter “F”, is supplied together with the timing chain and with the camshaft sprocket in a set, the wheels marked with the letters “E” and “G” are supplied individually → Electronic Catalogue of Original Parts.

Marking of the crankshaft sprocket radially in the area of the slot for the Woodruff key -arrow- is carried out with the letters “E”, “F” or “G”.
  Note
If the chain sprockets are replaced, order the crankshaft sprocket with the same code letter and check synchronous running of the chain sprockets.
Test sequence
  S13-0172
–  Press the chain sprockets until they make contact, with the markings see -arrows- for the timing pointing outwards.
–  Place straightedge flat onto the camshaft sprocket and measure size of gap at crankshaft sprocket.
  S15-0027
Position of chain sprockets
1 - Camshaft sprocket
2 - Crankshaft sprocket
šipka  -  points towards flywheel side
I -  Nominal dimension -a- = 0.09 ± 0,20 mm
II - max. tolerance -b- = 0.29 mm
III - min. tolerance -c- = -0.11 mm
 - (Crankshaft sprocket is positioned further out)
–  If the size of the gap is not within the tolerance range, install crankshaft sprocket of a different width and repeat the inspection.
