Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Torque wrench 5...50 Nm (e.g. - V.A.G 1331 -)
Removing
   
–  Detach cover for plug connection of lambda probe and remove electrical cables with retaining clips from heat shield -arrows-.
–  Pull plug connection out of cover and separate.

–  Unscrew front fixing nuts for exhaust pipe -arrows-.
–  Slacken bolted connections of clamping sleeve between catalytic converter and middle silencer and push to the rear.
–  Turn front exhaust pipe 180° lengthwise and guide out to the bottom.
  Note
Make sure that the heat shiels are not damaged.
Install
Installation is performed in the reverse order. Pay attention to the following points:
–  Position front exhaust pipe with new gasket at exhaust manifold.

–  Tighten fixing nuts according to the order of tightening shown.
t  Gaskets and self-locking nuts must be replaced.
t  Tightening torques → Chapter.
t  Coat thread with hot bolt paste -G 052 112 A3 -.
–  Replace clamping sleeve and align exhaust system free of stress → Chapter.
–  Tighten clamping screws of cover for the plug connection of the lambda probe to 2 Nm.
