Generating readiness code
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- with cable -V.A.G 1551/3, 3A, 3B oder 3C-
Test conditions
l  All electrical consumers such as lights and rear window heater switched off
l  Intake air temperature must be below 60°C ⇒ display group 007, display field 3
l  Coolant temperature at least 83°C ⇒ display group 007, display field 4
Procedure
–  Connect vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- and select address word 01 “Engine electronics”, ignition on → Chapter.
  Note
Certain work steps have to be carried out twice, in order to achieve the readiness code.
Work step 1: Interrogate fault memory
–  Enter function 02 “Interrogate fault memory” and confirm entry with Q.

The number of stored faults or “No fault recognised” appears in the display.
If a fault is stored in the memory:
–  Rectify the faults by referring to the fault table → Chapter.
If no fault is stored:
–  Press .
Work step 2: Erase fault memory

X Faults detected                     ->
–  Enter function 05 “Erase fault memory” and confirm entry with the Q.
  Note
t  The readiness code is erased each time the fault memory is erased.
t  If the ignition is switched off during “Interrogating fault memory” and “Erasing fault memory”, the fault memory is not erased.
–  Press .
Work step 3: Switch off ignition
–  Min. Wait 5 seconds with ignition OFF.
  Note
This point is important, because for certain diagnoses the castor of the control unit must be ended. Otherwise the readiness code cannot be generated.
Work step 4: Switch on ignition
–  Min. Wait 10 seconds with ignition ON.
Charge pressure sender is adapted to atmospheric air pressure sender.
Work step 5: 1st test of fuel system and other systems
–  Start engine.
–  Select function “ Read measured value block” and display group 001.

Vehicle system test                 ->
Fault memory erased!
–  For 5 seconds increase the engine speed to 2500 rpm and then run engine at idling speed.
Work step 6: 1st test of exhaust gas recirculation

Reading measured value block 1 ->
2500 rpm 4,6 mg/s 2.0°KW 94,2°C
–  Increase engine speed to 1600 rpm up to 1700 rpm and maintain it for at least 10 seconds in this range.
In this speed range, the exhaust gas recirculation is active and the control difference is checked. (Condition for generation of readiness code for exhaust gas recirculation).
Work step 7: Switch off ignition
–  Min. Wait 5 seconds with ignition OFF.
Work step 8: Switch on ignition
–  Min. Wait 10 seconds with ignition ON.
Work step 9: 2nd test of fuel system and other systems
–  Start engine.
–  Select function “ Read measured value block” and display group 001.

Reading measured value block 1 ->
1650 rpm 4.1 mg/s 4.0°KW 93.2°C
–  For 5 seconds increase the engine speed to 2500 rpm and then run engine at idling speed.
Work step 10: 2nd test of exhaust gas recirculation

Reading measured value block 1 ->
2500 rpm 4.6 mg/s 2.0°KW 94.2°C
–  Increase engine speed to 1600 rpm up to 1700 rpm and maintain it for at least 10 seconds in this range.
–  Press C.
–  Enter 017 for the display group 017 and read readiness code.

Reading measured value block 1 ->
1650 rpm 4.1 mg/s 4.0°KW 93.2°C
Specification in display field 2: 00000110
Specification in display field 4: 00000000
–  Press .
–  If the specified values are not reached, repeat procedure for generating readiness code → Chapter.
Work step 11: Interrogate fault memory
–  Enter function 02 “Interrogate fault memory” and confirm entry with Q.

Reading measured value block 17 ->
00000000 00000110 10000000 00000000
The number of stored faults or “No fault recognised” appears in the display.
If a fault is stored in the memory:
–  Rectify the faults by referring to the fault table → Chapter and generate readiness code again → Chapter.
If no fault is stored:
–  Press .

X Faults detected                     ->
Readiness code was successfully generated, if no fault is stored after repeating the test procedure in the fault memory of the engine control unit and if the following appears in the channel 017.

Reading measured value block 17 ->
00000000 00000110 10000000 00000000
