Install Installation is performed in the reverse order, pay attention to the following points: Gearshift mechanisms until 12.00   Note If the cable locks were removed, they must be replaced.

–  Apply a small quantity of polycarbamide grease -G 052 142 A2- into the ball sockets of the new cable locks -A- and -B-.   Note The seals -arrows- outside the ball socket must be free of grease.

–  Press the shift cable onto the gearshift lever and the selector cable onto the relay lever -arrows-. If the cable locks were not removed: –  Connect the shift cable and the selector cable with the relevant cable locks. Gearshift mechanisms as of 01.01   Note The cable locks are bored through with holes continuously for attaching to the gearbox shift lever or to the relay lever. The holes in the cable locks have different diameters.

Assignment of the cable locks:

Cable lock for:	Dimension “a”
Shift cable at gearbox shift lever	10 mm
Selector cable at relay lever	8 mm

The cable locks must no longer be replaced after the disassembly.

–  Apply a small quantity of polycarbamide grease -G 052 142 A2- onto the studs -arrows- of the gearbox shift lever -1- and of the relay lever -2-. –  Always replace lock washers -3- and -4- after each disassembly → Electronic Catalogue of Original Parts. –  Secure the shift cable with the lock washer -4- and the relay lever with the lock washer -3-. Continued for all gearshift mechanisms –  Align shift housing parallel to vehicle body. l  The distance to the vehicle body must be the same on both sides.

–  Replace clamp -arrow-. For vehicles with four-wheel drive –  Install propshaft → Chapter. Continued for all vehicles –  Assemble exhaust system free of stress and attach tunnel bridges → Engine → Rep. Gr.26. Set shift mechanism (up to gearbox manufacturing date 18 05 3) → Chapter. Set shift mechanism (as of gearbox manufacturing date 19 05 3) → Chapter. –  Install battery tray and battery → Electrical System → Rep. Gr.27. –  Install air filter → Engine → Rep. Gr.23.
