Removing and installing the dash panel
Removing and installing the dash panel
Removing:
–  Disconnect battery earth strap → Electrical System → Rep. gr.27.
–  Remove the steering wheel → Chapter.
   
–  Remove top steering column trim panel -1- e.g. with a screwdriver.

–  Remove screws -arrows- and remove handle of lever for height adjustment of steering wheel position -3-.
–  Remove screws -1- (1.5 Nm) and remove steering column bottom trim panel -2-.
–  Remove dash panel insert → Electrical System → Rep. gr.90.
–  Remove light switch → Electrical System → Rep. gr.96.

–  Remove cover on left -2- and on right -1-.
–  Remove potentiometer for headlight range control → Electrical System → Rep. gr.96.

–  Removing side cover for left dash panel -3- with wedge -3409-.
–  Remove fixing screws -2- (1.4 Nm) and unclip diagnostic connector.
–  Remove bottom part of dash panel -1- from the vehicle.

–  Take off damper part -1-.
–  Remove cover for gearshift lever → Transmission System → Rep. gr.34.

–  Remove the fixing screws -1- (1.4 Nm) and take out the ashtray -2-.
–  Release plug for ashtray illumination.

–  Remove the fixing screws -1- (1.4 Nm) and remove both side covers -2- to the front -arrow-.
–  Remove the radio (or navigation system) → Electrical System → Rep. gr.91.
–  Remove the middle storage area → Chapter (for vehicles without radio or navigation unit).
–  Remove air conditioning actuator → Heating and Air Conditioning → Rep. gr.87.

–  Disconnect plug connections and remove actuating elements -1- in the dash panel in the middle.

–  Remove screws -2- (1.4 Nm) and separate dash panel -3- from the centre console -1-.
–  Remove warning light switch → Electrical System → Rep. gr.96.

–  Remove fixing screws -2- (1.4 Nm) and pull out the glove compartment -1- slightly.
For vehicles with key switch for front passenger airbag
  Note
Pay attention to safety precautions regarding repairs to airbag system → Chapter.
–  Disconnect the plug connection of the front passenger airbag key switch.
For all vehicles
–  Remove sunlight penetration photosensor (if present) → Heating and Air Conditioning → Rep. gr.87.
–  Release plug from lock, plug from glove compartment light as well as from air hose (if present).
–  Remove glove compartment -1-.
–  Remove damper part below the glove compartment.

–  Remove fixing screws -2- (8 Nm) for front passenger airbag support -1-.

–  Removing side cover for right dash panel -1- with wedge -3409-.

–  Remove fixing screws -2- (2 Nm).
–  Take out dash panel -1- towards the top and towards the rear.
Installing:
–  Installation is carried out in the reverse order; pay attention to the following points:

t  If the airbag warning light -K75- signals a fault after assembly erase the fault memory with fault reader and interrogate again → Vehicle diagnostic tester.
t  Pay attention to the sequence when connecting the battery → Electrical System → Rep. gr.27.
