Repairing the brake caliper CI 38
  Note
t  Brake inspection → Chapter.
t  Install the complete repair set when undertaklng repairs.
t  Only use white spirits to clean the brakes.
t  Thinly coat brake cylinder, piston and gasket ring with lithium grease -G 052 150 A2-.
t  The brake calipers must absolutely be pre-bled before installing them in the vehicle (without brake pads) in case of a repair or when replacing them with new brake calipers → Chapter.
1 - Brake caliper with lever for the handbrake cable
q   replace brake caliper if the lever for the handbrake cable is not sealed
q   pre-bleed brake caliper after undertaking replacement → Chapter
2 - Dust cap
3 - Bleeder screw, 10 Nm
q   thinly coat thread with lithium grease -G 052 150 A2- before screwing in
4 - Self-locking screw, 35 Nm
q   replace after each removal
q   counterhold on the guide bolt when releasing and tightening
5 - Guide bolt
q   grease before fitting protective cap
6 - Protective cap
q   pull onto brake carrier and guide bolt
7 - Brake carrier with guide bolts and protective caps
q   must be assembled with sufficient grease on the guide bolt, supplied as a spare part
q   fit a repair set if there is any damage to the protective caps or guide bolts, use the enclosed grease packing to lubricate the guide bolts
8 - Protective cap
q   pull with outer sealing lip onto the piston
q   removing and installing → Chapter
9 - Piston with automatic adjusting device
q   removing and installing → Chapter
q   thinly coat piston with assembly paste -G 052 150 A2- before fitting
10 - Sealing ring
q   removing and installing → Chapter
