Camshaft drive - Summary of components
  Note
t  Before assembly oil all bearing and contact surfaces.
t  If considerable quantities of metal swarf or abrasion is found when carrying out engine repairs, this can be subject to damage to the crankshaft and conrod bearings. In order to avoid consequential damage, after the repair perform the following tasks:
–  Carefully clean the oil galleries.
–  Replace oil spray jets.
–  Replace engine oil cooler.
–  Replace oil filter.
1 - Cylinder head with camshaft housing
q   removing and installing → Chapter
q   Do not rework the sealing surface
q   Camshaft housing with integrated camshaft bearings
2 - Cylinder block
q   Sealing flanges and flywheel → Chapter
q   Pistons and conrods → Chapter
3 - Bracket for auxiliary units
q   for tensioning device and AC compressor
q   removing and installing → Chapter
4 - Cap
5 - Sprocket
q   for oil pump drive and timing chain
q   Clamping surfaces must be free of oil and grease.
6 - 20 Nm + torque a further 1/4 turn (90°)
q   replace
7 - Sprocket
q   Counterhold sprocket with counterholder -T10172-
8 - Drive chain
q   mark running direction (installed position) before removing
9 - 25 Nm
10 - 15 Nm
11 - Chain tensioner with tensioning rail
q   for oil pump drive
12 - Tensioning spring
13 - Oil pan
q   removing and installing → Chapter
q   clean sealing surface before installing
q   fit with silicone sealant D 176 404 A2
14 - 15 Nm
15 - Piston
q   for chain sprocket of drive chain
16 - Pressure spring
17 - Chain tensioner
18 - 9 Nm
19 - Timing case
q   removing and installing → Chapter
q   additionally fit with sealant D 176 501 A1
20 - 10 Nm
21 - Belt pulley
q   removing and installing → Chapter
q   Clamping surfaces must be free of oil and grease.
q   Secure belt pulley with counterholder -T30004 (3415)- to prevent it from turning
q   Removing and installing ribbed V-belt → Chapter
22 - 150 Nm + torque a further 180° (1/2 turn)
q   replace
q   removing and installing → Chapter „Removing and installing crankshaft-belt pulley“
q   The clamping surface of the fixing screw must be free of grease and oil.
q   insert oiled (thread)
q   Secure belt pulley with counterholder -T30004 (3415)- to prevent it from turning
23 - Bushing
q   Clamping surfaces must be free of oil and grease.
24 - O-ring
q   replace
25 - 50 Nm
26 - Gasket
27 - 40 Nm + torque a further 1/4 turn (90°)
q   Counterhold camshaft adjuster with counterholder - T10172-
q   Screw with left-hand thread
q   replace
28 - 50 Nm + torque a further 1/4 turn (90°)
q   replace
29 - Tensioning rail
30 - Camshaft adjuster
q   removing and installing → Chapter and → Chapter
q   must not be disassembled
31 - Timing chain
q   removing and installing → Chapter
32 - Sprocket
q   removing and installing → Chapter
q   for exhaust camshaft
33 - Sliding rail
q   for timing chain
34 - Guide bolt
q   Tightening torque: 20 Nm
35 - Bushing
