Checking the ventilation line
–  Unscrew the cap from the fuel filler neck.
   
–  Connect the hand vacuum pump to the vacuum tester -connection B-.
–  Move vacuum tester into position - A/B -.
–  Operate -V.A.G 1390- several times. No vacuum should build up.
If a vacuum builds up.
–  Checking the gravity valve → Chapter.
–  Check line -1- from the fuel tank for blockages.
If no vacuum builds up.
–  Unscrew the cap from the fuel filler neck.
–  Operate the hand vacuum pump several times. No vacuum should build up.
  Note
The hand vacuum pump will have to be actuated at least 20...30 times when there is little fuel in the fuel tank.
If a vacuum builds up.
–  Replace the cap on the fuel filler neck.
