Power Steering Pump Relief Valve
Introduction
If you encounter a vehicle that has a groaning type noise coming from the power steering pump when the wheel is turned to the full right or left position
when the vehicle is parked, it may be caused by the relief valve vibrating within the pump. In lieu of replacing the power steering pump, the relief valve
is now available as a replacement part.

Repair/Service Information
Before performing the repair, check the following items first:
- Check to make sure the tires are properly inflated.
- Check to make sure the power steering fluid is at the proper level.
- Check to make sure the belt is properly adjusted.
- Check to make sure the hoses are properly aligned and not rubbing anything.
- Check to make sure there is no air in the system.
After making any necessary adjustments if the noise is still present, perform the following:
