vehicles. The defect involves the accelerator control cable of the original equipment (factory-installed) Hitachi Cruise Control System on those vehicles
that are either Turbo-charged models or non-Turbo-charged models equipped with a Hitachi carburetor.

The defect, which results in fraying of the accelerator control cable, is caused by wear due to the routing position or alignment of the cable in the engine
compartment.

Fraying of the accelerator cable may cause sticking of the carburetor throttle and in an extreme case, the cable may break. The resultant loss of control of
the engine speed could lead to an accident.

Care should be exercised when operating your vehicle until it has been inspected and repaired. If, after removing your foot from the accelerator pedal,
your engine speed does not decrease, the engine should be turned off by use of the ignition key. DO NOT REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION
SWITCH until after your car has come to a complete stop.

In order to remedy this condition, your vehicle will be inspected and the accelerator cable will be repositioned and/or re-aligned, and, if necessary, the
cable will be replaced.

The parts needed for this repair will be available at your Subaru Dealer after November 6, 1984. You should make an appointment with your Subaru
Dealer after this date to have this inspection and repair procedure performed. The actual labor time to perform the inspection is approximately 6 minutes.
Repairs, if necessary, may take as long as 45 minutes. However, please plan on leaving your Subaru vehicle at your Subaru Dealer for the full day of
your scheduled appointment to allow the dealer some flexibility in scheduling other customers.

This inspection and repair procedure performed by your Subaru Dealer will be at no charge to you.

You must present the enclosed two-part Recall Certification/Repair Order Form to your Subaru Dealer at the time this inspection and repair procedure is
performed. If you lose this form, please contact the Customer Relations Department of the Subaru Distributor in your area at the address listed on the
reverse side of this letter. You will then be sent a new form. If you are no longer in possession of this vehicle, please complete the enclosed prepaid
postcard and mail it to us so that we may update our records.

If your dealer fails or is unable to remedy this condition without charge and within a reasonable period of time, you should contact the Subaru Distributor
responsible for your area. If your complaint is not resolved, you may contact Subaru of America, Customer Relations Department at the above address or

Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI) with the concurrence of Subaru of America, Inc. (SOA), has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle
safety exists in approximately 37,000 1982 through 1984 Model Year Subaru passenger vehicles.

The affected vehicles include those 1982 through 1984 Model Year Subarus that are equipped with a factory installed Hitachi Cruise Control System and
are either Turbo-charged models or non-Turbo-charged models equipped with a Hitachi carburetor.

The defect involves the operation of the Hitachi Cruise Control System accelerator cable. The cable may fray due to its mounting position and/or routing
in the engine compartment. If fraying of the cable should occur, then it may cause the accelerator throttle to stick. In an extreme case the cable may
separate.

Therefore, it is necessary to recall these 1982 through 1984 Model Year Subaru vehicles to inspect and repair (if necessary) the accelerator cable of the
Hitachi Cruise Control System as detailed in the Recall Repair Procedure HCC-33.

SOA will prepare and mail an Owner Notification Letter and a two-part Recall Certification/Repair Order Form to the owners of all potentially affected
vehicles. The owner notification mailing is scheduled for December 1984. A copy of the Owner Notification Letter is attached. The two-part form
