INCREASING TIRE LIFE
You can help your customers increase their tire life by performing some simple maintenance during their periodic inspections.
The tires should be checked frequently for proper air pressure, wear, and cuts. Check air pressure when the tires are "cold", that is, after the vehicle has
been parked for three hours or more. Correct pressures are specified in the tire placard. Do not let air out of warm tires to adjust pressure.
Tire wear will vary with each wheel. To increase the life of tires and keep wear uniform, it is best to rotate them every 6,200 miles (10,000 km) or at the
7,500 mile maintenance period.
When rotating tires, replace any unevenly worn or damaged tire. All four tires must be the same size and diameter. After rotating the tires, adjust tire
pressure and be sure to check wheel nut tightness.
Failure to rotate tires regularly will cause uneven wear, such as cupping of rear tires.
Make sure that both front and rear suspensions are aligned properly. Improper alignment will cause uneven tire wear and affect the vehicle handling.
All manufacturers of tires used as original equipment on Subaru vehicles recommend these procedures as a minimum precaution. These suggestions are
covered in the Subaru Owner's manuals.
