Fluid - A/T: Testing and Inspection
CHECKING FLUID LEVEL
Transmission
1.
With transmission fluid at operating temperature (140 to 176°F), park vehicle on a level surface.
2.
With engine idling and brakes applied, move selector lever through all ranges and return to Park.
3.
With engine idling, remove dipstick and check fluid level. Fluid level should be between the add and full marks.
4.
Add Dexron type automatic transmission fluid as necessary to bring level within limits.
Differential
On early models, remove differential filler plug and check to ensure that gear oil level is at bottom of filler plug hole. On late models, remove dipstick
and check to ensure that gear oil level is between the add and full marks. Add SAE 80W, 85W or 90 gear oil as necessary to bring fluid level within
limits.
