Wheel Hub: Service and Repair
Fig. 1 Exploded View Of Knuckle, Hub & Bearing
Refer to Fig. 1 when performing the following procedure.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove front wheels, then unlock axle nut.
3. Using a suitable socket, remove axle nut. Do not remove axle nut with wheel installed.
4. Remove stabilizer link, then double offset joint from transaxle spindle.
5. Remove driveshaft from knuckle. If it is difficult to remove, use remover tool No. 926470000 and plate tool No. 927140000, or equivalents.
6. Disconnect brake caliper from knuckle and secure to strut with wire.
7. Remove brake rotor from hub. If rotor is seized, install two 8 mm bolts in screw holes to remove.
8. Using a suitable puller, disconnect tie rod from knuckle.
9. On models with ABS, remove ABS sensor assembly.
10. Disconnect ball joint from knuckle.
11. Scribe alignment mark on camber adjustment bolt head, then remove knuckle to strut mounting bolts.
12. Remove knuckle assembly from vehicle.
13. Support knuckle using knuckle stand tool No. 927080000, or equivalent.
14. Using hub remover tool No. 927060000, or equivalent, press hub out of knuckle. If inner bearing race remains in hub, remove it with a suitable
tool.
15. Remove disc cover from housing, then using standard screwdriver, remove outer and inner oil seals.
16. Remove snap ring.
17. Support hub using hub stand tool No. 927400000, or equivalent, then using bearing remover tool No. 927100000, or equivalent, press out inner
race and bearing.
18. On models with ABS, remove tone wheel.
19. Install tone wheel.
20. Using hub stand and bearing remover, press new bearing into place. Always press outer race when installing bearing.
21. Install snap ring. Using hub stand and oil seal installer tool No. 927410000, or equivalent, press outer seal until it contacts bottom of housing and
inner seal until it contacts circlip.
22. Install disc cover and torque bolts to 7-13 ft. lbs.
23. Install hub in hub stand. Using hub installer tool No. 927120000, or equivalent, press bearing into hub.
