Paint Chipping on Rear Quarter Panel

INTRODUCTION

Chipping of paint from road debris is inevitable and unavoidable. This is especially true in areas where heavy salt or cinders are used for traction and
also areas where stones and other debris are present, such as construction zones, beach areas, etc.

We have found some extreme cases of chipping on the 2008 Impreza STI in the rear dog leg area that is beyond the protected film coverage installed at
the factory. Therefore, the size and thickness of the protected film has been increased to provide a larger area of protection under normal driving
conditions.

The purpose of this bulletin is to describe the corrective action to be taken when encountering a vehicle that exhibits this paint chipping condition.

In cases where the chipping is confined to the coverage area of the new film, repairs will be covered under warranty. If you encounter a vehicle where the
chipping is outside the new coverage area, an FSM must be consulted to determine what, if any, warranty coverage applies.

Note:

All repairs for this condition require submission of a QMR for authorization. All claims (even those under $500) must have an authorization code
from either SOA or your FSM. SOA will review each QMR and supply an authorization code or refer the QMR to your FSM for additional review.
Claims submitted for repair of this condition without an authorization code will be subject to rejection or debit.

Countermeasure in Production

The larger film was used in production starting in late March 2008 with VIN 8*831151.
