Fig. 2 Carburetor adjustment points. Models with A/C
1.
Check and adjust ignition timing as necessary.
2.
Place transaxle in ``Neutral'' position.
3.
Ensure vacuum hoses, blow-by hoses, rocker cover and oil filler cap are securely tightened.
4.
Start and operate engine until coolant reaches normal operating temperature. After coolant reaches operating temperatures, operate engine at 2500
RPM for 1 minute to ensure proper oxygen sensor temperature.
5.
Disconnect and plug the purge hose to intake manifold.
6.
Connect tachometer Before adjusting idle speed, be sure idle-up system is off. System is turned on if headlights, blower fan, rear defogger
or radiator fan are turned on.
7.
On models less A/C, proceed as follows:
a. Ensure idle-up components are ``Off,'' then adjust idle speed to specifications using the throttle adjusting screw, Fig. 1.
b. Turn headlamps ``On,'' then with idle-up system engaged, turn idle-up adjusting screw until specified idle speed is obtained.
8.
On models with A/C, proceed as follows:
a. Ensure idle-up components and fast idle control device (FICD) are ``Off,'' then adjust idle speed to specifications using the throttle adjusting
screw, Fig. 2.
b. With FICD on, adjust idle speed using A/C fast idle adjusting screw when the air conditioning system is on.
c. Turn headlamps on, then with the idle-up system engaged, adjust idle speed using the idle-up adjusting screw when the A/C is off and the
headlamps are on.
