Valve Clearance: Adjustments

1. Disconnect negative battery cable and remove the valve cover.

2. Set the cylinder to be adjusted to the top dead center position of the compression stroke.

3. Insert a thickness gauge between the valve and the valve rocker arm and check the valve clearance.

4. If the valve clearance exceeds the allowable range, adjust the valve clearance with the valve clearance adjuster (498767000) or equivalent.
5. Torque the adjuster to 17 - 23 Nm (12 - 17 ft.lbs) when done adjusting.
6. After completing the adjustments, rotate the crankshaft several turns and recheck the valve clearances.
7. Repeat adjustment as necessary.
8. Using a new gasket, install the valve cover.
