Suspension Strut / Shock Absorber: Service and Repair

1.
Pull up on parking brake lever, then loosen wheel nuts.
2.
Raise and support front of vehicle then remove wheel and tire assembly.
3.
Disconnect brake hose from brake hose bracket at strut.
4.
Remove bolts securing strut and strut bracket to housing, Fig. 4.
5.
Carefully remove the strut from housing with housing positioned downward.
6.
Remove strut to shock tower retaining nuts.
7.
Remove strut assembly from vehicle.
8.
Position spring compressor 926110000 or equivalent in vise, then install strut into tool.
9.
Compress spring, then remove strut mount retaining nut and remove strut from tool.
10.
Remove upper washer, mount, lower washer, O-ring, strut washer, oil seal, lower strut washer, spring seat, dust cover, spring and helper bumper.
11.
Inspect all components for wear, and replace as necessary. The strut assembly itself is not repairable. If strut shows signs of excessive
leakage, or is damaged, it should be replaced.
