Air/Fuel Mixture: Adjustments
49 State 4WD and Canada
1.
Start and warm engine to operaing temperature.
2.
Disconnect air suction hose between air suction valve and air cleaner.
3.
Plug air suction pipe.
4.
disconnect and plug idle compensator hose.
5.
Measure exhaust carbon monixide (CO) at idle in neutral.
A/T 1.5 ± 1.0 % @ 700 ± 100 rpm
M/T 1.5 ± 1.0 % @ 800 ± 100 rpm
6.
If not within specifications, drill out plug and adjust as follows:

a.
Using a 1/8 in. drill bit, drill through the mixture screw plug.
NOTE: Be careful not to damge screw!
b.
Insert a 1/8 in. sheet metal screw into the plug and remove plug.
c.
Start and warm engine to operaing temperature.
d.
Adjust idle mixture to specification.
A/T 1.5 ± 1.0 % @ 700 ± 100 rpm
M/T 1.5 ± 1.0 % @ 800 ± 100 rpm
e.
Install new plug for mixture screw.
f.
Reconnect idle compensator and air suction valve.
