A/C Compressor - Loud Clicking Noise

SUBJECT:

MATSUSHITA COMPRESSOR VANE NOISE

Should you encounter a vehicle equipped with a Matsushita compressor exhibiting excessive compressor vane noise, (which can be identified as a loud
clicking noise audible from inside and outside the vehicle with the compressor on), check the following before replacing a compressor.

Engine Idle RPM Within Specifications

Damaged or Leaking Refrigerant Lines or Components Parts

^

Suction and Discharge Pressures are Within Specifications

^

Refrigerant Level

Belt Tension is Correct Using Burroughs Belt Tension Gauge 110-130 lbs new belt 90-110 lbs used belt

If the vane noise still exists after verifying all of the above, slowly discharge the system according to the Service Manual. Remove the discharge line on
the compressor and add 30cc's of Atmos oil through the discharge port. Inspect the discharge hose O-ring for signs of wear and replace if necessary.
Reinstall the discharge hose to compressor.

Recharge the system and see if the compressor operation is acceptable. If the vane noise is unchanged, replace the compressor and mark the warranty
claim "Vane Noise Diagnosis".
