Hand Brake Boot Repair

INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this bulletin is to address the leather separating from the frame of the hand brake cover.

PARTS INFORMATION

Fast drying Cyanoacrylate (Super Glue/Krazy Glue) or equivalent.

Caution:

When using Cyanoacrylate (Super Glue/Krazy Glue) or equivalent, follow the manufacturer's precautions and instructions for proper and safe usage.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1)

Remove the hand brake boot from the vehicle (Refer to the applicable Service Manual).

2)

Using a clean workspace, apply a bead of adhesive between the frame and leather along the length of the frame where the leather has separated. If
the separation is large as in the example shown, apply the adhesive in 2" beads. This will prevent the adhesive from drying before the leather and
frame is fully seated.

3)

After adhesive is applied, use your fingers to clamp the leather against the frame and release after the glue adheres on its own. Be extremely
careful not to glue your fingers to the boot. Also, be careful not to get adhesive on any part of the leather that would be visible after installing the
boot. Continue until all of the separated areas are re-attached to the frame.

4)

Wait 15 minutes for the adhesive to fully dry.

Caution:

If you don't wait for the adhesive to fully dry before reinstalling the boot, some of the adhesive could be transferred to other surfaces of the
vehicle.
