SUBJECT: Roof Rack / Crossbar Wind Noise
Should a customer encounter a roof rack / cross bar wind noise on a Legacy Wagon or Outback, installation of a new "Air Diffuser Kit" (P/N
E3610LS060) may be beneficial in the reduction or elimination of the noise. The kit consists of four air diffuser strips, which are to be installed as
described below.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
1)
Ensure that the temperature of the Crossbars and Air Diffusers are between 45 °F and 75 °F. Failure to achieve the proper temperature may result
in improper adhesion.
2)
Remove both Crossbars from the vehicle and lay them so that the clamps face up. Push the slotted End Support in toward center. Clean the bottom
surface with 100% alcohol.
3)
NOTE: Each Crossbar has a different centerline. Locate the Crossbar center by measuring the distance between both End Supports and dividing
by 2. Mark with a grease pencil. (see Figure 1.)
4)
Measure along the centerline of the Crossbar 50 mm on either side of the mark and again make a mark. (see Figure 1.)
5)
Remove the Protective Backing from the Air Diffusers just prior to installation and apply to the surface ensuring they are centered and straight.
Apply even pressure for 15 seconds.
6)
Reinstall the Crossbars to the vehicle as specified in the Owner's Manual.
NOTE:
Both Crossbars have a label indicating the direction of mount. If they are not present, orient with the larger section of the Crossbar towards the front
of vehicle (see Figure 2). The Front Crossbar also has a MAXIMUM LOAD Label affixed to it.
