1998 MY SUBARU VEHICLES

SUBJECT
IGNITION & DOOR KEY CODE NUMBERS FOR 1998MY

Currently, and in the past, the key code (the numeric code used for cutting a new key) for Subani vehicles has been engraved on the original keys
provided with each new car. This practice is scheduled to be changed on 1998 model year vehicles.

The change is being made in the interest of added vehicle security, since the availability of the key code potentially allows anyone to make keys which
could he used to unlawfully acquire use of the vehicle.

The key code will no longer be engraved on the keys. It is now attached on an aluminum tag to the original set of keys pictured.

This change should not cause any problems for storage or shipping in the event of key loss, since the key code is also indicated on an adhesive tag
affixed to the side window and is also indicated in the vehicle inquiry file.

All SIA & FHI produced vehicles will have the key code in the Star system. If in any case the key code is not in the Star system, you should remove the
appropriate door panel and record the code from the lock cylinder's lever. Legacy, Loyale & SVX are on the right lock cylinder's lever. Justy and
Impreza are on the left side lock cylinder'& lever. See Service Bulletin 01-109-88 for location, Volume # 10.

However, as with any change, it is important that all parties are aware of this change and are given some guidelines on how to handle the new key tag,
especially for the retail customer. The purchaser of the vehicle should record this key number some place which is convenient to them in case they lose
their keys or lock them in the car, but also secure enough to prevent unauthorized usage.
