Idle Speed: Adjustments

Before attempting engine idle speed adjustment, make the following preparations:

1.

Ensure that ignition timing is correct.

2.

Ensure that all vacuum hoses are secure and in good condition.

3.

Fully warm up engine.  To bring oxygen sensor up to temperature, run engine at 2500 rpm for one minute after engine warm up.

4.

Disconnect and plug EVAP system purge hose to throttle body.

Idle Speed Adjustment (SPFI)

1.

Completely warm up engine and ensure ignition timing is set to specification.  Hook up tachometer.

2.

Disconnect air control valve harness at throttle chamber assembly

3.

Adjust idle speed to 550 ± 50 rpm by turning IAS.

4.

Reconnect air control valve harness and check that engine idles at 700 ± 100 rpm.

5.

If idle speed is less than 600 rpm, the connector contact is faulty or the harness is broken.
