Starter Motor: Testing and Inspection

Pull-In Test

Connect battery ground leads to starter motor as shown in Fig. 2, then positive lead to terminal 50. Pinion should extend when lead connections are
made. If starter motor does operate as specified, repair or replace starter motor as necessary.
Hold-In Test

Disconnect lead from terminal C as shown in Fig. 3. Pinion should be held in extended position. If starter motor does operate as specified, repair or
replace starter motor as necessary.
Return Test

Connect two battery ground leads to terminal 50 and to switch body as shown in Fig. 4.
2.
Connect battery positive lead to terminal C.
3.
Disconnect lead from terminal 50. Pinion should return immediately.
4.
If starter motor does operate as specified, repair or replace starter motor as necessary.
