Owner Letter

May 1982

Dear Subaru Owner:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Subaru of America, Inc. has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in some 1981 and 1982 Model Year Subaru passenger
vehicles. The defect involves the steering system of the vehicles and is a result of the steering wheel not not having been tightened sufficiently during
vehicle assembly.

Vehicles exhibiting this condition may develop looseness between the steering wheel and the steering shaft which could result in excessive play in the 
steering system and, if left unattended, the steering wheel could separate from the steering shaft.

If you experience excessive play in the steering system do not operate your vehicle. Contact your nearest Subaru dealer immediately. Operation of a
vehicle with a loose steering wheel can result in loss of control and possible crash.

In order to remedy this condition, your vehicle will be inspected and the steering wheel nut will be tightened to the manufacturer's specification. The time
required to perform this procedure is approximately five (5) minutes. Upon receipt of this letter, contact your Subaru Dealer promptly to schedule an
appointment for this repair.

You must present the enclosed three-part Recall Certification/Repair Order Form to your Subaru Dealer at the time this inspection and repair procedure
is performed. If you lose this form, please contact Subaru of America, Customer Relations Department at the above address and you will be sent a new
form. If you are no longer in possession of this vehicle please separate the enclosed form and complete the prepaid postcard portion and mail it to us so
that we may update our records..

This inspection and repair procedure will be performed on you vehicle at no charge to you.

If your dealer fails or is unable to remedy this condition without charge and within a reasonable period of time, you should contact the Subaru distributor
responsible for your area. The addresses and telephone numbers of the Subaru distributors are listed on the reverse side of this letter. If your complaint is
not resolved, you may contact Subaru of America, Customer Relations Department at the above address or you may wish to notify the Administrator,
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 400 Seventh Street, S.W., Washington, D.C. 20590 or call the toll free Auto Safety Hotline at
800-424-9393 (Washington D.C. area residents may call 424-0123).

We regret any inconvenience this matter may cause you. However, we have taken this action in the interest of your safety and your continued satisfaction
with our products.

WE URGE YOU TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE TO HAVE THIS INSPECTION AND REPAIR PROCEDURE
PERFORMED.
