Fuel System - Poor Driveability in Hot Weather

Subject: Fuel Separator
All 1982 vehicles have been fitted with a fuel separator in production. The 1982 Service Manual issued in August, 1981 does not show this separator or
serviceing procedures.
The purpose of the separator is to improve driveablity in extremely hot weather.
The fuel separator is located in the engine compartment on the shelf above the Brake Booster. See Figure 1.
Always observe caution when working with the fuel system.
Remember NO SMOKING.
Removal & Installation
1)
Release clips, and disconnect hoses from the fuel separator.
2)
Pull out the fuel separator from the holder.
3)
Installation can be carried out in the reverse order of removal.
Inspection
1)
Inspect the separator for dirt or foreign matter. Replace the separator if there is evidence of contamination.
2)
Inspect the separator for water. If there is evidence of water, remove the separator and shake~the water out with the outlet downward.
NOTE:
The separator is a cartridge type and cannot be disassembled.
