Catalytic Converter Shield - Rattles

ALL 1985 & 1986 NON-TURBO SUBARU VEHICLE

SUBJECT:

FRONT CATALYST SHIELD REPLACEMENT

Should the front catalytic converter shield need replacing due to rattling, replacement shields are available under the following part numbers:

Vehicles

In order to install a catalytic replacement shield:

1)

Disconnect the O2 Sensor lead, if equipped.

NOTE:

Do not remove O2 Sensor

2)

Lift the vehicle off of the ground and ensure that it is secure.

3)

Remove the complete front catalyst pipe from the vehicle according to Section 2-9, Page 4, of the 1985 or 1986 Subaru Service Manual.

Using a hardened 3/8" drill bit, remove the upper and lower catalytic converter shields by drilling out the seven spot welds. (See Figure 1).

5)

Install the upper and lower replacement shields onto the catalytic converter.

6)

Install the proper size flange bolts through the upper catalyst shield with the self locking nuts installed on the bottom.
