Instrument Cluster / Carrier: Service and Repair

Exc. XT Coupe

1.

Disconnect battery ground cable and remove knobs from wiper switch and upper and lower switches on right side switch panel.

2.

Remove screws securing instrument cluster bezel and switch panel, disconnect electrical connectors, then remove panel and bezel.

3.

Remove cluster retaining screws and pull cluster away from instrument panel.

4.

Disconnect electrical connectors and speedometer cable, taking care not to damage speed sensor assembly, then remove cluster.

5.

Reverse procedure to install.

XT Coupe

1.

Disconnect battery ground cable, then disconnect and remove steering shaft universal joint.

2.

Remove left lower instrument panel cover and duct below steering column.

3.

Disconnect electrical connectors to ignition and combination switches, wing switch assembly and the instrument cluster, then remove screws
securing harness brackets to steering column.

4.

Remove meter cable.

5.

Pull knob to ``pop-up'' steering column, remove tilt control cable, then push down on steering wheel and lock mechanism.

6.

Install 8 mm x 16 mm bolt to secure column, Fig. 5.

7.

Remove steering column mounting bolts from under instrument panel.

8.

Pull column assembly from mounting at toe board, then remove steering column and instrument cluster assembly.

9.

Remove instrument cluster from column.

10.

Reverse procedure to install.
