Remove brake hose from strut bracket by removing brake hose clip.

7.

Remove bolts securing strut and strut bracket to axle housing, Fig. 3.

8.

Carefully remove the strut from housing with housing positioned downward.

9.

Remove strut to shock tower retaining bolts.

10.

Remove strut assembly from vehicle.

11.

Position strut assembly in tool No. 925651000.

12.

Position the tool hook in the upper end of coil spring.

13.

Install tool No. 925651000 on the strut upper retaining bolts.

14.

Remove locknut from strut rod using suitable 17 mm box wrench.

15.

Pull strut mount of rod.

16.

Remove thrust washer, oil seal, and thrust bearing washer.

Remove the upper spring retainer from the rod.

18.

Carefully release spring tension and remove tool.

19.

Remove oil seal assembly using tool No. 925390000.

20.

To disassemble strut assembly, proceed as follows:

a. Compress strut to minimum length to prevent piston rod damage.
b. Pull piston rod out slightly, packing should be released from strut tube.
c. Pull out piston rod and rod guide.
d. Slowly remove inner cylinder.
e. Pour oil out of strut tube.
f.

Slowly insert piston rod into inner cylinder liner.

g. Slowly insert inner cylinder with piston rod into strut tube.
h. Pour 205cc of oil into strut tube on all models except 4 wheel drive.
i.

Pour 220cc of oil into 4 wheel drive model shock tubes.

j.

Position packing on rod guide.

k. Install rod guide assembly into inner cylinder. Use caution to avoid damage to packing from strut rod threads.
l.

Install oil seal assembly on piston rod using tool 925380000.

m. Apply grease to the oil seal lips.

21.

Reinstall oil seal assembly.

22.

Reverse procedure to assemble and install.

    Strut replacement procedures on these models are similar to those for conventional suspension. However, service on air spring strut assemblies is
limited to replacement of the upper mount and replacement of the entire strut assembly. To service air spring strut assemblies, proceed as follows: 

1.

Disconnect battery ground cable and remove cap from top of strut, Fig. 5.

2.

Disconnect air line from top of strut, then remove mud guard.

3.

Release vehicle height sensor lead from clip and disconnect electrical connector.

4.

Raise and support vehicle and remove strut assembly as outlined for models with conventional suspension.

5.

Ensure all air has been discharged from air spring chamber, then remove strut mount retaining nut while holding strut shaft with spanner wrench
926510000 or equivalent. Strut rod must be properly secured with spanner wrench to prevent damaging diaphragm.

6.

Transfer mount to replacement stud and torque retaining nut to 38-49 ft.lbs. while holding strut shaft with spanner wrench.

7.

Install strut assembly as outlined for models with conventional suspension.

8.

Secure height sensor lead in clip at a point 8.27 inches from strut and reconnect electrical connector.

9.

Connect air line using new O-ring seal, lightly lubricated with multi-purpose grease, and torque fitting to 3.6-10.8 ft.lbs.
