CONDITION:
A condition may exist that an audible squeaking noise is heard from the top of the Rack & Pinion when the steering wheel is turned.
CAUSE:
Friction between the pinion shaft and oil seals.
CORRECTION:
Install Oil Seal Kit (p/n 48530-64810) and use Multi-purpose Wheel Bearing Grease # 2 grade during reassembly.
AFFECTED VEHICLES:
This procedure applies to 1995-1998 and some 1999 Esteem (SY) models.

APPLICABLE POWER STEERING ASSEMBLIES
The affected power steering gears will no longer be replaced as assemblies. In the event a vehicle requires repair for the following condition, the repair
will be limited to replacing the pinion oil seal, stub oil seal, and retaining ring.
