Valve Lash Adjustment
    Intake valve lash should be adjusted to .0051-.0067 inch with engine cold or .009-.011 inch with engine at normal operating temperature. Exhaust
valve lash should be adjusted to .0063-.0079 inch with engine cold or .0102-.0118 inch with engine at normal operating temperature. Adjust valves to
specifications every 15,000 miles, using the following procedure.

1.

Mark position of plug wire terminals in relation to distributor body, then remove air cleaner, distributor cap and valve cover.

2.

Remove ignition timing check window rubber plug from from clutch housing of transmission case. Rotate crankshaft until ``T'' mark on flywheel is
aligned with match mark on transmission case  distributor rotor is aligned with No. 1 plug wire terminal.

Check lash of No. 1, 2, 5, and 7, then rotate crankshaft clockwise 1 complete revolution and check valves 3, 4, 6 and 8, Fig. 4, and adjust as
needed. Adjust valve lash by loosening adjusting screw locknut and turning screw. When lash is correct, torque locknut to 11-13.5 ft. lbs.
while holding adjusting screw, then ensure that valve lash is still within specifications.

4.

Install air cleaner, distributor cap and valve cover. Torque valve cover bolts to 3-3.5 ft. lbs.
