Using a suitable spring scale, measure worm shaft starting torque as shown in Fig. 4. Starting torque should be 3.48-5.80 lbs.

If torque is not as specified, adjust adjusting bolt (1), Fig. 2, until torque is as specified.

If worm shaft starting toque is within specifications, check worm shaft operating torque in its entire operating range (turning worm shaft all the
way to the right and left) as shown in Fig. 4.

Worm shaft operating torque should be under 6.96 lbs. If torque is not as specified, readjust worm shaft starting torque in a straight forward
position using adjusting bolt (1), Fig. 2, then recheck worm shaft operating torque.
7.
If specification is not as specified after readjustment, replace gear box.
