Axle Shaft: Service and Repair
Front Axle Shaft Installation
1.
Install oil seal so side with spring faces differential side. Grease seal lip before installing.
2.
Install new bearing and spacer on shaft, ensuring wheel bearing spacer is installed with tapered side of its inner diameter facing towards brake
drum side.
3.
Reverse steps 1 through 10 of removal procedure to complete installation. Torque backing plate bolts to 13.5-20 ft. lbs.
4.
When mounting hub bolts into rear axle shaft, ensure to fit head securely in stepped part of axle shaft.
5.
Torque hub bolt nuts to 36.5-57.5 ft. lbs.
