Winterization of Samurai Vehicles
Preparation for changing seasonal conditions can extend vehicle life. The coming winter season will create the need for your customers to winterize their
vehicles, especially in areas with severe temperatures and snow conditions. It is important to not overlook the use of winter grade lubricants and adequate
anti-freeze/ coolant mixture.
Anti-freeze
A high quality ethylene glycol anti-freeze should be used in the cooling system diluted with distilled water. A minimum mixture of 50% anti-freeze is
recommended, but the instructions on the anti-freeze container should be followed to obtain the desired freezing point.
Dealers should be careful to check and protect new car inventory in those areas that experience extremely cold temperatures.
Engine Oil
Please refer to the specification chart in the owner's manual when advising your customers about the proper engine oil to use:
It is important to note that in temperatures from 0~ to minus 22~
F.
and below, SAE 5W30 engine oil will ease engine starting and increase fuel economy. This oil will provide good lubrication in warmer
temperatures up to 85~ F. also.
Differential Gears. Transmission and Transfer Case
The owner's manual provides the following gear oil chart:
Please note that A.P.I. GL5 MUST be used in the differentials, and MAY be also used in the transmission and transfer case, to simplify
matters for the customer and the servicing dealer. SAE 75W90 is available in the U.S. market and can be used in all seasons. It is recommended for
seasonal changes and for refills at the 7,500 and 30,000 mile change intervals.
