Brake Caliper: Service and Repair
Removal/Installation
1.
Raise and support vehicle.
2.
Remove brake hose mounting bolt from caliper. Drain any brake fluid into suitable container.
3.
Remove caliper pin bolts, then caliper.
4.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque caliper pin and brake hose mounting bolts to specifications.
b. Bleed brake system.
Overhaul

Remove caliper as outlined under Removal/Installation. Clean caliper with brake fluid.
2.
Using compressed air, remove piston from cylinder. Keep fingers away from piston. Piston should be taken out gradually.
3.
Remove piston seal using a suitable thin blade. Do not damage inside of cylinder.
4.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Before installing piston into cylinder, install boot to piston as shown in Fig. 2.
