Contact Coil: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
1. Disarm SRS as outlined under Air Bag Disarming and Arming. See: Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming/Service and Repair
2. Place front wheels in straight-ahead position, then turn ignition to Lock and remove key.
3. Remove driver's air bag module as outlined under Air Bag. See: Air Bag/Service and Repair
4. Remove steering wheel retaining nut.
5. Place alignment marks on wheel hub and steering shaft for assembly reference.
6. Using suitable steering wheel puller, remove wheel from column shaft.
7. Remove steering column hole cover and knee protector, then steering column upper and lower covers. If upper cover is difficult to remove, loosen
steering shaft upper joint bolt, then steering column mounting bolts.
8. Loosen contact coil and combination switch assembly wiring harness clamps and bands, then disconnect connectors.
9. Remove contact coil and combination switch attaching screws, then remove coil and switch assembly. Contact coil is part of the combination
switch. Do not attempt to remove coil from switch.
INSTALLATION
1. Ensure front wheels are in straight-ahead position and ignition is turned to Lock.

2. Slowly rotate contact coil counterclockwise with light force until it stops. Rotate in a clockwise direction approximately two and one half turns,
aligning the centering marks, Fig. 7. New coil assemblies are locked in center position by a pin.
3. Position contact coil assembly and combination switch to steering column, then install attaching screws and connect all except yellow electrical
connectors. On new coil assemblies, remove centering pin.
4. Install steering column upper and lower covers, then hole cover and knee protector.
5. Align steering wheel hub and shaft marks made during disassemble. Install wheel and tighten retaining nut to specifications.
6. Install driver's air bag module as outlined under Air Bag. See: Air Bag/Service and Repair
7. Arm SRS as outlined under Air Bag Disarming and Arming. See: Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming/Service and Repair
