Axle Shaft: Service and Repair
Rear Axle Shaft
1. Drain differential gear oil into appropriate container.
2. Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel and brake drum, then the rear wheel bearing retainer nuts from axle housing.
3. If there is no clearance between rear wheel bearing retainer and parking shoe, loosen parking cable adjusting nut and pull down brake shoe hold
pin stopper plate.
4. Using axle shaft tool, No. J37781 and puller tool, No. J2619-01, or equivalent, remove axle shaft.

5. Remove retainer ring from axle shaft using a grinder to flatten two parts of bearing retainer ring, Fig. 2.
6. With a chisel remove retainer ring, then using a suitable press remove bearing from axle shaft.
7. Reverse procedure to install. Apply Suzuki Bond No. 1215, or equivalent, to mating surface of bearing retainer to brake backing plate. Tighten to
specification.
