1989-1991 2 Door Sidekicks With Two-Piece Tailpipe
Suzuki has determined that the two-piece muffler/tailpipe on 1989-1991 Sidekicks may develop a perforation due to corrosion if the vehicle is frequently
driven on roads where large amounts of salt are applied during winter. Continuing corrosion of a perforated tailpipe can eventually result in the tailpipe
becoming completely separated from the rest of the exhaust system. Exhaust gas leakage from a separated tailpipe can cause heat damage to the vehicle's
rear floor material and carpeting.
To preclude the possibility of heat damage, ASMC is providing installation of a heat shield on affected vehicles at no charge.
Affected Vehicles
All 1989 - 1990 2 Door Sidekicks produced in Japan and Canada and 1991 2 Door Sidekicks produced in Canada before 12/02/90 with a two-piece
muffler/tailpipe.
NOTE:
1991 Sidekicks produced in Japan and 1991 Sidekicks produced in Canada after 12/03/90 are equipped with a single piece muffler/tailpipe and
are not affected by this Service Action.
Owner Notification
Suzuki Sidekick owners will be notified, starting February 1992, of this Service Action by American Suzuki Motor Corporation. Please see copy of
owner letter, attachment "A". Owners will be encouraged to have the service part installed if they anticipate frequently driving their Sidekick on roads
where a large amount of salt is applied.
Dealer Service Action Responsibility
Dealers are to perform this Service Action on all affected vehicles upon customer request.
All inventory vehicles subject to this Service Action in your dealership should receive this modification before you sell or release the vehicle. See
Technical Service Bulletin # TS 4-12 01202.
Parts Information
Parts should be ordered to cover all affected vehicles in your inventory and for the customers who may want the service performed.
We recommend that care be taken in ordering parts since these Service Action parts will not be eligible for return or included in any obsolescence
program.
