Evaporative Emission Control Canister: Description and Operation
This system prevents the emission of fuel vapors from the vehicle fuel system. Fuel vapors from the fuel tank are vented to a storage canister containing
charcoal. When the engine is running, fuel vapor stored in the canister and fresh air are drawn into the intake manifold to be burned. A two-way check
valve incorporated into this system monitors fuel tank pressure and vents it according to preset pressure values. When pressure is high the valve allows
fuel vapor to flow from the fuel tank to the canister. When pressure is low the valve lets fuel vapor return from the canister to the fuel tank.
