Drive Belt: Testing and Inspection
Serpentine Belt
COOLING FAN BELT TENSION
WARNING: Disconnect negative cable at battery before checking and adjusting belt tension.
1. Inspect belt for cracks, cuts, deformation, wear and cleanliness.
2. Check belt for tension. Belt is in proper tension when it deflects 6 to 8 mm (0.24 - 0.32 inch) under thumb pressure (about 10 kg or 22 lbs.).
Belt tension "a": 5 - 7 mm (0.20 - 0.27 inch) as deflection/10 kg (22 lbs.).
NOTE: When replacing belt with a new one, adjust belt tension to 4 - 5 mm (0.16 - 0.20 inch).
3. If belt is too tight or too loose, adjust it to proper tension by displacing fan pulley position.
4. Tighten adjusting bolt and pivot bolt.
Tightening torque (a): 50 Nm (5.0 kg-m, 36.5 ft. lbs.)
5. Connect negative cable at battery terminal.
