Heater Core: Service and Repair

HEATER CORE

1. Drain radiator into appropriate container and disconnect water 

hoses from heater core.

2. Remove instrument panel assembly as follows:

a. Disconnect battery ground cable.
b. On models with air bag, disarm and remove air bag modules as outlined under Technician Safety Information.
c. Remove screws from front of console, then back lockpins from rear of console.
d. Holding shifter boot inward, remove housing and console.
e. Remove steering column covers.

Remove attaching screws from instrument cluster front shroud, then the shroud.

g. Remove instrument cluster attaching screws and pull cluster rearward.
h. Remove speedometer, then disconnect cluster wiring harness and remove cluster.

Remove inspection screw covers, then the upper housing attaching bolts.

j.

Remove lower housing attaching bolts located on the driver's side of the instrument panel.

k. Remove center support dash mount.
l.

Open glove compartment and remove two glove compartment lockpins, then lift glove compartment out of the instrument panel.

m. Remove instrument panel attaching screws from lower righthand side of the instrument panel.
n. Remove handle bar from right side of the instrument panel.
o. Remove hood release lever attaching bolt.
p. Disconnect center mounting bracket from the radio and ashtray.
q. Disconnect dash panel wiring harness and remove dash panel.

3. Remove heater case attaching bolts.
