Camshaft Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection

Disconnect distributor lead coupler.

Measure resistance of pickup coil by using ohmmeter.

If resistance is out of specification, replace CMP sensor (signal generator) as follows.
Pickup coil resistance:
185 - 275 ohms at - 10°C (14°F) - 50°C (122°F)
240 - 325 ohms at 50°C (122°F) - 100°C (212°F)

Remove distributor cap and rotor.

Remove CMP sensor (signal generator) securing screws and lead wire clamp screws.

Replace CMP sensor (signal generator).

Adjust signal rotor air gap to specifications.
Refer to Adjustments.

Install rotor, distributor cap seal and cap.
