Crankshaft Position Sensor: Description and Operation
The sensor (2) consists of magnet (5) and coil (6). For G16 (1.6L) engine, it is mounted on oil pan (3) with specified air gap between the sensor core end
and crankshaft timing belt pulley (1) tooth.
For J20 (2.0L) engine, it is mounted on cylinder block rear end (4) with specified air gap between the sensor core end and sensor plate tooth on
crankshaft.
As the crankshaft turns, AC voltage (pulse) is generated in the sensor. ECM (PCM) detects the crankshaft revolution speed from the signal and uses it as
one of the signals for misfire monitoring.
