4 Runner 2WD L4-2693cc 2.7L DOHC MFI (1997)
NOTE: When using a vise, do not overtighten it.
1. Coat the assembly with power steering fluid.
2. Install the vane pump shaft with the bearing by performing the following procedures.
a. Wind vinyl tape on the serrated part of the vane pump shaft.
b. Using the 09608-04031 SST, press in the shaft with the bearing.
NOTE: Be careful not to damage the oil seal.
c. Using snap ring pliers, install a new snap ring to the front housing.
3. Using a plastic hammer, tap in two new straight pins to the front housing.
NOTE: Be careful not to damage the pins.
4.
Install the cam ring with the inscribed mark facing outward.
NOTE: Align the holes of the cam ring with the straight pins.
5. Install the vane pump rotor as follows.
a. Install the rotor with the inscribed mark facing outward.
b. Install a new snap ring to the vane pump shaft.
6. Install the vane plates and gasket by doing the following.
a. Install the ten plates with the round end facing outward.
b. Install a new gasket on the front housing.
NOTE: Be careful the direction of the gasket.
7. Align the holes of the side rear plate and straight pins, and install the side rear plate.
