4 Runner 2WD L4-2693cc 2.7L DOHC MFI (1997)
a. Remove the bolt, washers and bushings, holding the shock absorber to the rear axle housing and disconnect the shock absorber.
NOTE: When installing the shock, tighten the bolt to 65 Nm (47 ft. lbs.).
b. Turn the shock absorber with holding the nut, and remove the retainers, cushion and shock absorber.
NOTE: When installing the shock, tighten the nut to 20 Nm (14 ft. lbs.).
5. Disconnect the stabilizer bar brackets.
6. Disconnect the lateral control rod from the frame.
7. Remove the coil spring, doing the following.
a. Lower the rear axle housing.
NOTE: Be careful not to snag the brake line.
b. With lowering the rear axle housing, remove the coil spring.
INSTALLATION
Install in the reverse order of removal.
Inspection
INSPECTION
1. Inspect the operation of the shock absorber, doing these steps.
