Introduction
When servicing or disconnecting the 4WD ECU, be sure to disconnect all power by removing the 20A 4WD fuse or the negative battery terminal.
Failure to disconnect power for the 4WD ECU before performing Repair Manual diagnostic procedures may cause the transfer case actuator to activate
and damage the transfer case actuator.
Applicable Vehicles

2003 - 2004 model year 4Runner vehicles equipped with V6 or V8 engines and multi-mode 4WD and full-time 4WD ONLY.
Repair Procedure
CAUTION:
Irreparable damage to the transfer case actuator may result when the proper precautions and repair procedures are NOT followed. Damage to the
actuator caused by improper repair procedures is NOT a warrantable repair.
