Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair

THREE-WAY CATALYTIC CONVERTER (TWC) REPLACEMENT 

1. Remove front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter.

(a) Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor connector.

(b) Remove the 2 bolts and support bracket holding the front exhaust pipe to the center exhaust pipe.

(c) Remove the 3 bolts and support bracket.
(d) Remove the 3 nuts, front exhaust pipe and 3 gaskets.

2. Reinstall front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter.

(a) Place 2 new gaskets to the exhaust manifold.
(b) Place a new gasket to the center exhaust pipe.
(c) Attach the front exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold and center exhaust pipe.
(d) Temporarily install the 3 new nuts and front exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold.
(e) Temporarily install the 2 new bolts, support bracket arid front exhaust pipe to the center exhaust pipe.
(f) Install the support bracket with the 3 bolts.

Torque: 44 N.m (450 kgf.cm, 33 ft.lbf) 

(g) Tighten the 3 nuts and 2 bolts.

Torque: 

Nut: 62 N.m (830 kgf.cm, 46 ft.lbf)
Bolt: 48 N.m (490 kgf.cm, 35 ft.lbf) 

(h) Connect the heated oxygen sensor connector.
