a. Using a dial indicator, check the backlash in the bearing shaft direction. The maximum backlash is 0.7 mm (0.027 inch). If the backlash
exceeds the maximum, replace the bearing.
b. Using a dial indicator, check the deviation at the surface of the axle shaft outside the hub bolt. The maximum deviation is 0.1 mm (0.0039
inch). If the deviation exceeds the maximum, replace the axle shaft.
3. If the vehicle came w/ ABS, remove the ABS speed sensor from rear axle housing.
NOTE: When installing the sensor, tighten it to 8.0 Nm (71 inch lbs.).
4. Remove the rear brake assembly.
5. Remove the rear axle shaft assembly, performing these steps.
a. Remove the four backing plate mounting nuts.
NOTE: When installing the mounting nuts, tighten them to 66 Nm (48 ft. lbs.).
b. Pull out the rear axle shaft assembly from the rear axle housing.
NOTE: Be careful not to damage the oil seal.
6. Remove the O-ring from the rear axle housing.
INSTALLATION
Install in the reverse order of removal, noting the following:

bleed the brake system
-
check the ABS speed sensor signal and check for leaks
Hub Bolt
REPLACEMENT
1. Remove the wheel and the brake drum.
2. Using the 09650-17011 Special Service Tool (SST), remove the hub bolt.
3. Install a washer and nut to a new hub bolt, as shown in the illustration, and install the hub bolt with torquing the nut.
