b. Insert combined tools into oil seal.
c. Remove one service tool from other taking care not to damage oil seal lip.

Install steering rack into cylinder housing. Remove service tool.

Install rack end guide in position shown in Fig. 21, and install wave washer.

Install cylinder end stop with O-ring using tool 09630-24012 as follows:
a. Insert one tool into the other, Fig. 22.
b. Insert combined tools into oil seal.
c. Remove inner tool.
d. Install cylinder end stop on cylinder housing.
e. Remove service tool.

Assemble rack housing to cylinder housing making sure that O-ring and spacer are positioned between rack housing and cylinder. Torque bolts to
13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm).

Apply liquid sealer to threads of new stop nut. Using service tool 09630-24012 or equivalent, install nut and torque to 127 ft. lbs. (172 Nm).

Stake nut.

Install claw washer aligning claw with rack groove.
19.
Install rack end and using tools 09612-10092 and 09612-24011 or equivalents, torque to 76 ft. lbs. (103 Nm). Stake claw washer.

Assemble control valve and housing.
21.
Apply liquid sealer to bolt threads and install O-ring and control valve housing. Torque bolts to 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm).
22.
Adjust pinion bearing preload as follows:
a. Install bearing in rack housing.
b. Using service tool 09616-00010 or equivalent and suitable torque wrench, measure frictional torque.
c. Apply liquid sealer to adjusting cap threads.
d. Torque pinion adjusting cap to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm) using tool 09612-24011.
e. Loosen pinion adjusting cap until bearing preload is equal to frictional torque (measured in step 22b) plus .87-1.74 inch lbs. (.10-.19 Nm).
23.
Apply liquid sealer to pinion adjusting cap locknut and torque to 51 ft. lbs. (69 Nm).
24.
Adjust total preload as follows:
a. Install seat, rack guide and spring.
b. Apply liquid sealer to thread surface to rack guide spring cap.
c. Install rack guide spring cap using tool 09612-24011 or equivalent and torque to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
